JUST SAYING

“I’m just saying”.  Listen carefully to when someone says “I’m just saying”.  They can be in the middle of a lengthy explanation and insert “I’m just sayin’…” and are you supposed to listen more intently?  Is this a signal that this person is highlighting importance??

Or more likely is he “just sayin” it doesn’t matter as he is just talking and not committing???  In any case  JS  (“just saying”) opens up the notion that we all have things to say most of the time.  Some important, some entertaining, and some just filler so we can hear ourselves talk.  Regardless, we, as humans, just need to talk for so many different reasons.  Of course, without explanation and consideration, not much could be accomplished.  History would not be written and the Constitution or Bible would never be heard by those who need or choose to hear it.  Like I’m JS “Thou shalt not steal” or “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

I wonder who it was that was JS “We the people…” ???  Did he say JS before he/they said/wrote it?

I kinda like Tim Tebow quotes…  in fact he made a promise after a Gators’ home loss to Mississippi in 2008 that started with “I just want to say one thing…. I promise you one thing, a lot of good will come out of this…”  He was JS there is a positive side to a disappointment.

So maybe JS is an expression that we should delete from our cornucopia of expressions.  What do you think? Why don’t we delete the “just”?   Why can’t we just say without trepidation that “ I am saying” and take responsibility for who we are and what we say?

Is this not a reflection on our culture today where we obsessively avoid criticism while feeling at ease criticizing others??  We choose our media food and I bet we relish the scandals and criticisms of others…  What is the STAR or the ENQUIRER?  Bet we all know…  JS.

I’m JS that your manhood is also determined by how thoughts are formed and how we choose to have them come out of our mouth.  There used to be elegance to diction and expression.  It is now a hodgepodge of street and ethnic jargon that makes one wonder what speech will be like in the next 100 years.  Mumbles of sounds and vocabulary that gamers and computer wonks decode effortlessly while the rest of us submit to verbal extinction.  Maybe this happens to every generation.  Sure seems more extreme today. But I am old and clinging to the past.
