Memorial Day

Memorial DayOur flag flies at half mast.

Our flag.

The flag of the United States of America.

Our flag allows us to debate, criticize, and protest as much as we want without fear of persecution.

It is amazing how much we love to criticize. Media and social networks are ablaze with condemnation. Oh yes, there are stories of good works…. but those headlines are stolen by scandal and criticism, however intellectually cloaked.

Freedom of speech is the greatest threat to freedom throughout the world. What we take for granted is feared elsewhere. We are under attack by radical this and that because freedom of speech will destroy their power. Terrorism is applied to those willing to speak. Sad.

Graves freshly dug and graves of 1776 abound with sacrifice and tragedy. Tragedy if the life was lost for no reason. Those of us who live have to make those losses have meaning by how we conduct ourselves. The veteran is not that outspoken for he knows the horror of war and the value of freedom. We all too often mock it and abuse it.

It is time we bring dignity and respect back into our lexicon. Yes mam, yes sir. Yes mother, yes father.

Our hypocrisy is so much more visible these days. Look at the killings and the excesses of our behavior. Look at pictures of crowds these days and how fat we have become. We mock those who differ. We mock religion…. Respect for elders?? Forget it. They are just old people who are not relevant.

On Memorial Day we are bowing our heads to our cell phone and not to those who made this land of cell phone free.

The tear on the eye of the Veteran reflects the light of Truth.

It knows evil and it knows folly.

Thank you for your service.
